The construction of this home is being supported by our good friends and building partners at Thrivent Financial. Join us as we break ground on our VERY FIRST Rotary House!
The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 10:30 AM in the 2000 block of Madison Avenue in Newport News. Our groundbreaking ceremonies last about 30 minutes and are held rain or shine. Due to social distancing and gathering restrictions, this event will be streamed live on Facebook at facebook.com/habitatpgw. This home is being built in partnership with the James Family. The construction of this home is being supported by the following Rotary Clubs: -Rotary Club of Hampton -Rotary Club of Newport News -Rotary Club of Oyster Point -Rotary Club of the Virginia Peninsula -Rotary Club of Warwick at City Center Please join us as we celebrate the dedication of the Shipyard's 16th house, this one built in partnership with the Kabwe family.
Immediately following that, we hope you will stay as we break ground on the Shipyard's 17th house, which also will be Habitat's 200th home! This house will be built in partnership with the McCallum family. The dedication ceremony will take place in the 2000 block of Marshall Avenue, and the groundbreaking ceremony will be just around the corner at the 2000 block of Madison Avenue. The Kabwe family home was built in memory of Ron Nelson (longtime Habitat construction supervisor) and in memory of Everett Jordan (longtime Shipyard employee). These visionary men met at the start of the Shipyard-Habitat partnership over 15 years ago and, as a result, a friendship was born. Ron worked tirelessly with Habitat since 1999, building a majority of the homes we sell in partnership with low- and moderate-income families. Everett spent 44 years with the Shipyard in a variety of jobs, ultimately retiring as the director of the Apprentice School. We hope you will join us for this ceremony! The construction of this home is being supported by our good friends and Building On Faith partners at St. John's Episcopal Church Hampton, First Baptist Church of Hampton in honor of Reverend Dr. Joan S. Parrott, and First Presbyterian Church of Hampton. Lakia has been employed in the medical records department of an area hospital since 2005, and is the proud mother of two daughters and one son, The construction of this home is being supported by our good friends and building partners at Walmart Distribution Center #6088. Join us as we break ground on a home for Mohammad and Fawzia Maroof and their family.
Our groundbreaking ceremonies last about 30 minutes and are held rain or shine. Mohammad has been employed as with an area nonprofit organization for the past three years. He and his wife are the parents of one daughter and two sons. The construction of this home is being supported by our good friends and building partners at Anheuser Busch. Our groundbreaking ceremonies last about 30 minutes and are held rain or shine. Karen has been employed at a local dental office as a business assistant since 2016. Karen is the mother of 2 beautiful daughters, Tanayia and Tyshea. She also has a 24 year old son Terrelle. Tanayia is a rising senior and a member of the school’s I.B. Program (The International Baccalaureate Program) with a 4.13 GPA and is also on the softball team. Tyshea is a rising 9th grader and is a cheerleader. Both girls are also in the marching elite organization. The construction of this home is being supported by our good friends at Old Point National Bank. ![]() Join us as we celebrate the upcoming construction of our newest Thrivent Builds home for Theresa Fletcher and her family. 122 Howard Drive in Williamsburg, VA. Our ceremonies last about 30 minutes and are held rain or shine. Theresa has been employed at a local oncologist practice as an LPN since 2011. She is the mother of 3 wonderful children. Her son Tyrone, is a rising 11th grader who plays football for his school team. Her daughter Natiyah will be attending Virginia State University in the fall, where she will major in Music Performance. Her other daughter Ajah is a rising 8th grader and is a member of her school's bridge club.
