Thrivent Faith Build - Hawkins Family
The RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 12:30 PM!
Habitat for Humanity will be building four (4) homes at 122 Howard Drive in the Grove section of James City County this year!! Two of those homes have been designated for Thrivent Builds Faith Partnership and will be built alongside two other homes on Howard Drive, just off Route 60 in the Grove section of James City County.
All of the up front costs to pay for the construction of the Faith Build home will come from the local faith community. Our Lead Faith Partner for this home is Thrivent Financial who is generously providing a matching grant in the amount of $50,000, which is half the cost of a Habitat home. All other faith based organizations who financially contribute to this home will have their donations matched dollar-for-dollar by Thrivent Financial. We are still raising the required funds and seeking volunteers for this build, so if you or congregation would like to partner, please see the information at the bottom of the page. The first Thrivent Faith Build home (for the Fletcher family) was finished in December 2017 and dedicated on the same day as the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hawkins family home! |
A Faith Build is an opportunity for Habitat and Faith based communities to partner together to build a home for a local family through prayer, volunteerism, and financial support. It is our firm belief that every faith can be put into action.
PARTNER FAITH GROUPS, so far!

Meet the Hawkins Family!
Markisha Hawkins was born and raised in Toano, where she and her family attend Chickahominy Baptist Church. She has been employed with Williamsburg James City County Head Start Program as a teacher's assistant since 2008 and could not be happier to work with such wonderful kids every day!
In her spare time, Markisha enjoys spending time with her four beautiful children. Her oldest daughter works at the Walmart Distribution Center and attends Thomas Nelson Community College to attain an Associate’s Degree in Business. Her second daughter is a 10th grader where she enjoys learning and cheerleading. Her eldest son is a 5th grader where he plays basketball and her youngest son is in the head start program.
The Hawkins family is very excited to make new memories in their new home!

WANT TO PARTICIPATE?
PRAY - First and foremost, we ask that you keep the ministry of Habitat for Humanity in your prayers.
VOLUNTEER – If you, your church or business or other civic group would like to volunteer, we would love to have you! Once construction begins, all volunteer opportunities will be posted at our Volunteer Hub. You can read more about the process here, but you will be able to sign up yourself and even whole groups with one registration! Check the Hub often or sign up for Volunteer Alerts, so you are notified when dates are added to the site. If you have any questions, please contact Director of Volunteer Engagement Mimi Mitchell using mimi@habitatpgw.org or 757-913-5652. We look forward to seeing you on the site! DONATE – We received a generous grant of $50,000 from Thrivent Financial for this home, which we have to match dollar for dollar. We have received some funding from many area congregations, but have not yet reached our goal. If you'd like to contribute to this build, you can do so on the right. You can also mail a check to Habitat for Humanity / 11011 Warwick Blvd / Newport News, VA 23601. Please include "faith build" or "Thrivent" in the memo line. Churches can also prepare and serve meals for construction workers and volunteers. You can also provide in-kind goods and services (for example, a plumber from your church might volunteer to do the plumbing work on a Habitat house). Sell SHARES in the Thrivent Builds home! One square foot of a Habitat home is $83.33 and we sell 1200 shares for each Habitat home. Share certificates make great gifts for birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and other special occasions! You can also purchase a share personally in this home! |
