Habitat for Humanity ReStores in Newport News and Williamsburg are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently-used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price, usually 30-90% off.

The goal of the ReStore is to generate enough profits to build more Habitat homes for deserving, hardworking low- to moderate-income families, as well as to promote recycling. 100% of the profits from the ReStores are used to build and sell affordable housing!

In order to further this goal for future homes, we need merchandise to sell in the ReStore, customers like you to shop with us and volunteers to help us operate the stores!

Read on for more information about how to support the ReStores by shopping, donating and volunteering!

What happens when I call to schedule a FREE ReStore donation pick-up from my home or business?

The ReStore Donations Ambassador will ask the city or county in which you reside. This will determine the truck route best suited for your location.

The Ambassador will also ask details about the items you wish to donate and will provide you options as to the day of the week that is available. Typically, we request you call 5 to 7 days in advance of your desired pickup. Spring and summer tend to be busier times of the year; you may need to allow more lead time.

You will also be asked specific street address and point of contact information. The actual truck route is determined by GPS the business day prior to the pickup. Therefore, a specific time of pickup cannot be confirmed during the initial phone call.

You will receive a confirmation call usually by noon the business day BEFORE your pickup to confirm your pickup and to provide you with a 2-hour window during which you can expect the ReStore truck to arrive at your address. If we don’t reach you, we will leave a message so please be sure to check your machine.

Your items should be preferably left outside, in the garage or on the 1st floor. Any item upstairs or downstairs must be easily accessible and able to move safely so as to not cause damage to the donor’s home or injury to drivers. Due to safety and liability concerns, our drivers are generally not permitted to negotiate stairways in order to access donations. Appliances should be disconnected prior to the arrival of our drivers as they are not equipped to disassemble or dismantle items prior to removal. Bed headboards, foot boards, and side rails should be dismantled prior to the arrival of the drivers.

Volunteer
Interested in volunteering at the ReStores?

With so many great donations coming in, the ReStores really need volunteers!  Volunteers in the ReStore handle a variety of duties, including customer service, furniture restoration, appliance & equipment repair, donation pick-up (drivers), and donation inventory & pricing. Volunteers need to be 16 and older and the experience can be great for seniors and their friends.

DONATE

Want to invest in the community?

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
